Dan, AFAIK any recent 2001 New York State car is CA emmisions legal,
especially if purchased in the Metro NYC region as you are in. Just to be
certain, check with any convienient new car dealer. NY and a few other
states adopted CARB requirements starting last year. Except diesels, that
is.
