... the air that's going to cool the intake charge is the same air that's going into the intake charge ... so just adding an intercooler isn't likely to have any benefit. There are other tricks that are used for turbos that would apply ... water injection is one thing that would have benefit on a NA motor ... although it would not likely be much.
If you're gonna get wacky with an NA engine you might want to think about a blower ... ;-) ... or a turbo! The latter is what I'm looking to do with a 3.6l NA Audi motor ...
