[BiturboS4] RE: OCT boost gauge

Check out the install instructions. There is a relatively simple control
board for the LEDs and this is wired directly into the ECU cable. Therefore
I guess that it's reading directly from the boost sensor signal and not the
software (as that would more likely be a link to the CAN bus). Hence I
expect that this gauge would react quickly like any other 'direct' gauge.

It looks good to me, and since it's analogue with colours, it should be safe
to use whilst driving as peripheral vision would work. However for me there
are a few downsides:
1) Cost (especially for an international customer like me)
2) The OCT logos - that was a really BAD move IMO
3) The fact that the red LEDs light 'near' the 1.5 bar level. Why can't they
be more specific? I have my yellow LED set to come on at 0.7 bar (stock
level for a Euro S4) and the red at 1.1 bar (my car will peak at about 1.25
bar but I want to be warned when this happens). If the OCT gauge doesn't go
red until 1.3 bar then for most chipped K03 cars it should not ever light.

The other note I have is that IMO the install is not for beginners. Anything
involving the instrument panel (expensive item) and splicing into the ECU
cable should only be done by someone with experience of working on
automotive electrics.

I don't know. Yeah it looks really nice, but I'm not sure how ideal the Audi
engine management system is. Maybe it's a VAG tool shortcoming, but I thoug=
ht
measurements were done every second or so. If that's the case, this thing
wouldn't be real time. Anyone?

Six hundred dollars? My goodness, no thank you!
I think this will suffer from the same problem as
the trip computer solution- that is it is not
instantaneous, the readings being derived
electronically instead of mechanically.
Also, I really prefer the "S4" logos on my dials as
opposed to the name of a vendor I've never even
heard of.
