Actually Eric, it only seemed to plague the early 2000 models (A6 2.7T and
Allroads included).  Mine included, chips or not.  Certainly chips
accellerate a core problem.  In most cases, I've heard that it's bad castings
which caused the failures.  In mine, an impeller blade was sheared right off.
 This was clearly a defect or some kind or debris (like flashing from a bad
casting hitting the impeller).
