Based on Audi factory service information for 2000, the latest factory-recommended change interval for all V6 engines is 32k, 64k, etc., but it's also fair to say that some maintenance intervals may have been spec'ed differently at different times. Also, the intervals may change from one model year to the next. Not sure where the 40k interval may have come from, but I don't doubt it has been published that way.
