Agreed.  This stuff about increased torque creating a failed synchro is 
unfounded.  Torque on the synchro is caused mainly by one's arm.  
Which, if improperly applied, may constitute abuse.  but not a chip.  
That would contribute to in/out/intermediate shaft failure, or that of 
a bearing or teeth themselves.  Not synchros.
