Agreed, however, eventhough I have the winter package, I don't recall having a steering wheel.

As stated by Russel, I kind of feel I am taken for a ride, especially since the airbag light came on again last nite, after the part was replaced, and in conjunction with the time spent by the technician. Again, I understand that driving a high performance vehicle comes with the cost of maintenance, however, this does not mean that a client should be taken for a ride by his/her dealership.

Any input is very much appreciated, especially from technicians,

The part might be expensive, but labor is about 15 minutes to replace the "spiral spring" so don't be taken for a ride.

Keman, perhaps you can comment on the following... which is affecting Michael and myself.

My 2000 A6 2.7T needs a new spiral spring as well.  No faults yet, but it is clicking when I turn my steering wheel.  I was quoted by my independent shop that the cost of repair would be roughly $100 if I DIDN'T have a heated steering wheel, and $275 if I DID have a heated steering wheel.

I have the winter package on my car, but to the best of my knowledge, I do NOT have a heated steering wheel, although it could be broken if I do.  When they ordered the spiral spring for my car based on VIN # they were sent the more expensive part.

Can anyone (Keman?) comment on whether or not the qualifier on which part I need is indeed the presence of a heated steering wheel?  I want to help make sure they get the right part (IE the cheapest one that will work) for my car.

I know, this has been discussed before, see bottom of this email (by Russel Romano). So at my 30K service, out of warranty, its a MY2000, 30K service is $184 in labor and some other $42 orso in parts.
 
Dealership wanted $92 diagnostic fee, which I declined, stating I ran my VAG, and thought I knew what errors were. MAF replaced (7 yr, 70K warrantee) and "spiral spring" replaced in steering wheel, part number 1 1JO-959-654-M ring, part was $278,82, and $184 (again sigh) in labor, does this sound reasonable??
 
Second question, airbag light came on again last night, and yes, will visit dealership, any other recommendations/comments (Keman ?!?)
