Requirement? No. A good idea? Yes, because stock downpipes are restrictive to 
the stock turbos, and would be even more so to the larger turbos. 
I know several stage 3 cars that run piggies with no issue, so aftermarket 
downpipes aren't a requirement but they do offer a tad more flow. 
Oh, and I don't know wher you live, but a guy in Nashville has a set of stockers 
if you want to gut them before pulling yours.
