Alan & John:
You might be right on your perception of the list being
dormant because of previous owners
have sold their B5 Audis.
I recently sold my 2001 with only 72,000 miles for
$10,500. It was my favorite car of
all time.
I had in my mind to buy a 2006 or newer S4 with the
V8. I tried one out and did NOT like
it. Sure in stock form it probably could out run the 2001, if you really
pushed it. It does not have the usable torque
that the 2001 had, and it felt a little clumsy.
I went across the street to look for used M3 BMW's,
and tripped across a 2008 BMW 135i with 300 miles
on it. It wasn't even on my radar screen. What a blast to drive with
similar torque characteristics of the B5 Audi.
300 hp, 300 lb torque. It is definitely faster that the old S4.
The jury is out which is the best car. I do miss
the AWD, and did not realize what it meant
until I lost it with the rear wheel drive. You can easily get in trouble
with the two wheel drive, where the 4 wheel
hardware will save your butt.
FYI, I had tried Stage 1 APR on my Audi, and the car
ran worse, and I went back to stock, It
lacked the all around torque that the stock program has.
Good luck with your "new" Audi.
