[Es2] where to start on wiring ?

Hi guys,

I have started work on my '90 coupe quattro/3B project, and just finished
working 20+ hours of preliminary work on it this weekend. I'm taking care of
little issues for now, but will soon be ready for the big installation
phase. I spent this morning removing the battery box and finishing the paint
work, and bent the tie rod while it was easily accessible.

I wanted to get rid of some of the wiring that was not going to be needed,
and found that the main harness has some things that may be needed. I
started to split the harness, to preserve the starter wire and a couple of
other things I might need, and started worrying if I could ever finish
wiring rats nest. There must be 1000 wires going to and from the fusebox and
relay panel area, and everything seems to be interconnected.

My questions to the more experienced do-it-yourselfers: Did you simply cut
out the main harness and start from scratch? Did you put the 3B harness
through the same hole in the firewall (seems extremely difficult to get to)?
If not, where?

Seems that it is more difficult to merge them than to start from scratch. Am
I making this more complicated than necessary? I want to preserve the AC if
possible. I will be needing your collective wisdom as I work through this.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
