Description:
PICTURES.
Hi folks
I posted here a while back but was unable to load pictures. Now, I've got a camera...and the lady's got to go!
It's history:
This is a 1985 Audi 5000 S. Silver exterior, tan cloth interior. Despite the age, it has only 86,000 miles on it. It was originally owned by a physician who then sold it to my professor friend at Harvard. My friend drove it only 2000 miles a year- making road trips to New York to see his wife.
I acquired it from him but now have no need for it. (I live in Boston and take the T)
The Good:
Runs like a top!!! I don't have the records, but my friend was religious in his maintenance of the car. The trunk is full of German fluid containers (brake, transmission, oil, etc.) that speak to this!!! Car was serviced by an Audi mechanic in Brookline, MA.
Brand new tires; odometer is correct (seriously 86000 miles), looks great despite age, started despite freezing weather this morning. Interior is absolutely solid- amazingly quiet and tight.
Issues:
Biggest issue-
Front brake calipers are sticking. This is subdued when you begin driving, but as you warm 'er up, they begin to stick. Most likely the master cylinder- quoted at 250-350 by local VW/Audi Mechanic. (Murphy Brothers in Quincy) Because of this, I wouldn't drive the car very far- I've only driven it a total of 100 miles since ownership, and the problem surfaced around 80 miles into it or so.
Exterior-
There's a 12-inch dent on the driver side fender that needs to be pulled out; some small rust bubbles on the lip of the hood; two of the door handles need reconnecting- in their current state, they're non-functional.
Engine/Drivetrain-
Engine runs fine- valves tap only on start up for about 10-12 minutes...could use an oil change. Other than that, no major issues that would prevent you from driving.
Interior-
Absolutely pristine interior- has that VW/Audi smell still. The map light switch is a bit loose and the gauges can go wonky. (but this is common for this marque)
I have described this car to the best of my ability. To fix it up would require about 3-400 dollar, and you'd have a great, reliable car on your hand.
