MAF isolation for V6 12V

Dear Todd,
During the week end, I have tried to isolated my MAF using a camping
mattress. The result is interesting. The engine is more responsible and
powerful. I really feel a difference. However, I still have a lack of power
when the temperature of the engine reaches about 100 C (i.e, the temperature
indicator in the middle). I should mention that the isolation is not perfect
(it is a first try) because a small portion of the MAF remains exposed to
the hot temperature of the engine bay. As a consequence, the MAF becomes hot
after a certain operating time. In a near future, I will remove the MAF, I
will make a complete isolation. I plan to use a larger PVC or ABS tube that
I will fill with an isolating mousse or rigid isolation material for home
purpose. At that time, I will also increase the hole in the intake box
following your design.
On the other hand, I found that on A4 V6 2,8, the intake box and the MAF
design have changed. It look better designed to stay colder.

Other little tidbits for the 12valveV6, open up the intake path.
Look at the tube that runs from the deflector behind the headlight to the
air
filter box. It necks down to about 1.75 inches, not good for air passage. I
replaced that with a piece of 3 inch ABS pipe. It will take some
gerry-rigging
to make it work. It should just fit into the air filter box, with a gap at
the
bottom, I filled that with a piece of plastic bolted into place. The hole in
the
deflector will have to be changed also, that's the fun part.
You can also have the throttle body primary bore enlarged, I think the max
size
is 1.25 inches, up from 0.94 inches.
One other think I'm going to try is to buy some aftermarket "header wrap",
to
insulate the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) which is the aluminum tube that bolts
to
the back of the air filter box. I think that once the engine heats up, the
MAF
acts as a heat sink, heating the incoming air. By insulating the MAF, I
think
the incoming air will stay cooler, thereby aiding in performance.
