Why mark Steering Pump when disassembling???

They allow a bit of rotation.  The two halves which
were perfectly flat when new have no doubt warped
a little.  Putting them back together in the exact
position they came apart gives you a better chance
of it sealing.

There are stories in the archives of 'sanding' them
flat again or using a loop of (silk?) thread to ensure a seal.

I have found that the real problem with a leak at the center
after a rebuild is the o-ring under the pressure relief valve.
One that they don't supply any more...  probably because
later pumps seem to have the presure relief valve locked in
place with some seal/glue on the threads.
