5ks Cooling Fan Resistor

    I had a chance to listen to my sister's cooling fan again this past
weekend.  It was loud, like a 747 on take off loud.  She talked to her shop
in Cambridge, MA and they told her it was a busted resistor and the fan was
only running on high.  He said that fan is a 3 speed?  I thought they were a
2 speed fan.  He also quoted my sister $150 for the resistor, seems a bit
high to me.  Anyone got more advice for my sis?
