Quattrophile,

For those who own the NA AUDIs, I posed a suggested to Elgin Cams regarding
the possible popularity of a performance cam suitable for the mid to late
'80's NA I5 motors incl. 2.2 CIS/CIS-E and 2.3l CIS-E3 for 4000Q and 5000,
CGT, 80, 90, 100 series AUDIs with these general setups, as not everyone has
the resources to turbocharge, but most would appreciate a modest gain for
the money.

Here is the question from John at Elgin:

Hi Ben , Dema and I have been sorting out the various style camshaft
cores to come up with a list I can work from. I do need some
information... Do you know which engines or years had the hydraulic
tappets?

So, before I attempt to provide an answer based on my recent, but limited
findings, I would like some feedback on which I5 motors/cars/years have the
Hydraulic lifter cam.

Also, a show what kind of interest there would be in getting Elgin to
provide a lower priced alternative to the Shrick series of Cams. I've been
able to locate and have Elgin grind an appropriate cam for under $250 incl.
solid lifter core and shipping. Elgin produces good quality work and could
come up with some nice grinds for mild street and other performance needs if
there is sufficient demand.

Perhaps there is some demand for the older solid lifter motors as well. I
don't think turbo, however, as the cam seems relatively optimal for street
use, but maybe.

p.s. this cam effort thus far is being done gratis, and I have no desire at
this time to profit, only recoup any personal costs if necessary.
