Frozen back Calipers

I just replaced calipers, rotors, pads and emergency brake cables on my '88 
80 q.  The problem that I have is that after replacement I pumped the brakes 
and came to find out that the calipers closed and is now locked up on the 
rotors.  What does one do to circumevent this problem to get the brakes to 
release.  How does one adjust the system and whatt should the recommended 
seperation from pads to rotors be?
