Do airbags need to be serviced every 10 years??

Bill,

When airbags were first installed no one knew just how long their "shelf
life" in a car should be and a rather arbitrary ten year intervals was
specified. I have heard recently that this ten years service interval has
been extended to fifteen years. Who knows whether this interval may be
extended again as more experience with the technology is gained. The truth
of this I don't know for sure - nor does anyone else AFAIK. Rest assured
that if you do actually end up having some sort of service (like replacing
an old one with a new one) your bill will be >>$1K.
