Do airbags need to be serviced every 10 years??

Hi all...as some of you know I just acquired a 1991 200 TQ20v wagon, which I am
still sorting out..(I sold the 89 200TQ wagon, which had 349,770 miles on it at
delivery yesterday and should, by now, be in its new home in Ohio, with its new
owner, who really
seems to know his audis.) Anyway, the point of the message is that I have a
sticker on the driver's side sunvisor of the '91 which advises that "The airbag
must be renewed after a period of ten years." My car was delivered in July 1991
and the "renewal date" is punched out as 7-00. Haven't heard anything more
about it except what has been on the list, but I can report that my airbag light
comes on for about the first two or three minutes after starting and then goes
out. I will be checking next week to see if it has ever had the airbag recall
and I will ask if there has been an update to the "renewal" interval. I will
let you know when I get something definitive (even though I don't trust my local
Audi dealer for much). Regards, Tom Donohue
