lions and tigers and vipers, oh my!

Got to watch a Viper run at an SCCA auto-X yesterday. Course was a "relatively" fast runway section, at the mid-2nd Gear range of my (unfortunately) tree-fallened GTi. The Viper was well driven, and one of the few properly driven (according to my McKamey school learning) around the pin turn at the far end of the course (hate small runways!). Driving whilst looking out the side windows can be fun, but it's sure slow. This Viper DROVE around the pin turn. He did loop it once, right at the finish chicane of the course. Oh, well! The car (Viper) did have awesome power, it just PULLED whenever it accelerated. Gotta love 450 lb-ft of torque!

BTW, GTi ran fine, (no untoward handling due to it supporting a 25 inch diameter maple), I won class (ES) though there is much rust in the driver (I remember alot, but it was tough to put it all into practice, especially all within any single run. Guess that's what you get when you are out of practice). Thank God for lotsa branches on the tree and the car cover. Guess I'll have to do the bodywork and fix it up.

(LAC) No Audi's ran this time (nope, my 200Q stayed home). There was a TT (pre-recall, ran well two events ago) there, but it's owner ran his Boxster instead (and almost won the PAX index competition!) Boy, is his life tough!

Interesting trip today. Help a friend drive to St. Louis to pick up a gem
(cough) of a BMW 2002. Great air flow through the 02's floor board and
someone hijacked the head and back window and a sundry of other essential.
Project car, ya betcha.

Driving past Gateway Speedway we noticed a host ov Vipers running a autoX
course. Hmmmm, detour.

Viperfest 23-29, running concurrent with the Barber/Dodge open wheel series.

Lotsa funky looks as we pull in with the cream puff in tow.

Statement of the day: We tell the gate-keeper that we're here to run the
Vipers. Made this guys century.

Drag racing of Vipers prove interesting. Some are just blinding quick, as
in 10 car lengths ahead of next lane. Up close reveals drag slicks and a
trunk full of juice(NOS).

Quite a few loops in the auto-x course. The wonders of too much power on a
tight course. Lotsa side window driving here.

Barber/Dodge series proves interesting, using the north turn and all the
home straight then HARD on the binders for the infield section. A few off's
but not as many as there should have been.

Incredible organization. Worth going to see if only to take notes. Those
Dodge boys know how to put on a show.

Dave
