Kiss me before you @!#* me! I just stopped at the $tealer today to pick up
the flexible power steering hose that sits along the P/S cylinder bank.
$193 for the thing!!!! They are making a mint on these parts! I haven't
ordered from Linda @ Carlson, yet, but I'll have to start once I get more
familiar with using the Family Album.
This is the hose with an insert to join the rubber hose to the metal pipe
leading to the power steering pump on the top of the motor. Before I go and
throw my old one out, has anyone successfully repaired that joint? My hose
looks like it began leaking earlier this Spring. I threw a zip-tie around
it, but it has been weeping more and more. I had to add another 1/2 qt. of
Pentosin yesterday, and that triggered me to figure out where that fluid was
going. Initially, I thought that hose was some sort of Oil line (because of
the light brownish tint that the fluid had). I guess the color is just what
happens to the fluid as it ages.
Anyone had to replace this hose before (part # 4A1 422 893 AA)? How
difficult is it to reach the fitting on the steering rack?
Hopefully this will eliminate the power steering fluid loss, and I'll be
able to continue tracking where all my oil is going (currently losing about
1/2qt between fillups - every 400miles or so). I would be more OK with
these niggling maintenance items if my backup car was ready (Jetta diesel
that needs some work).
Had to vent,
