It's the classic roller skate/tank battle. Was the
highway crowded? Did he dart in and out of traffic?
His car is 11 feet long and 5 feet wide. It weighs
about 450 lbs. and appears to be made of recycled can
openers and milk jugs. You didn't mention the driver.
IME these cars are piloted by either old ladies or
under 25 Indy racer wannnabees. Much more nerve than
skill. On the open highway you should be able to make
this type of pest quickly disappear above about 60
mph.
As for the Taurus. I got to drive a 00 with 3k miles.
3.8 litre/autobox. What a POS. Above 85 mph, the
wind noise from the door and window seals was
unbelieveable. The drivetrain noise and harshness
really sucked too. Above 100 mph the radio could
barely drown out this noise. It was like being in a
factory. When the roads slowed down and got rough,
the rattles and plastic squeeking were really
noticeable. Comparisons are made against an 89 200
with 184k miles. Fuel mileage (mechanically figured)
was just about equal or slightly worse for the Taurus.
Oh, the other cars were cleaner and their paint was
shinier!

ps-the Taurus SHOULD be able to get you off the line.
Torque or something.
