<< Just for those of you who haven't seen it. At $13,000 USD, it's a
little steep, but I'd take it over a Honda or Hyundai any day. Seems we
in the US still can't get one, but I suppose if enough people squawked,
we might get a group like they did for the UK.

Not really too steep. Having recently had a 1984 GTi, they're a blast and a
bitch (ie, rust bucket electrical nightmare won't pass emissions) First,
it'll keep up with many pocket rocket imports, for less money. Second, as
someone else stated, it's easy to drop another motor into that chassis - my
friend has a 2.0 16V Cab, another has a 1.8 8v G60 Gti. Both are really,
really fast. And it would be nice to have the newness factor. Figure out
how much it costs to do a nice, factory looking paint job. There's 3 grand
alone. Redo the interior, and the wiring, and another 2K is out of your
pocket. Lights, grill, bumpers, etc. - and another 1500$ is gone. If they
made a new Coupe GT for 16k$, I think it'd be worth every penny, and I'd
sport for one at that price (figuring that I'll have close to 20K into mine
when it's done...)

Later!
