Front Strut THUDDING

Are you saying that, when bounced one time, the car moves up and down about
ten times, beginning with a 2" range of motion? If so, I would say that the
strut cartridge is doing nothing at all. On my car, if I bounce it, it
comes right back to where it belongs, maybe 1 up/down movement with about a
barely noticable range. And that's with Boge's.
BTW... I had a terrible thud with the front driver's side strut last time I
drove the car. Same symptoms as you. Sprayed penetrating oil onto the
rubber top mount, and it went away. Unbelievable. It sounded terrible...
like a mechanical clunk, but it was just the top of the cartridge shaft
rubbing on the rubbe mount when it flexed.

Subject: Front Strut THUDDING
The right front strut on the V8 thuds with about every bump it hits. The
whole front end but the subframe bushings are new as of 11 months ago. The
struts are Bilstein. I did visual and drive inspection and there seems to
bee some oily residue on the strut housing. Is it possible the strut is
blown? This is a Bilstein. The best. Sounds weird but possible? The car
does dampen once like it should when braked hard but then bounces about 10
times starting with about 2 inch range of motion and getting progressive
better. It seems to be worse on the right side. Also, anyone know if there
are suppose to be boots over the shocks? Bilstein says no there are none
for the front. Seems weird even though they do have internal seals.
