re. strapping IC: how many straps?

I suggest you consider zero straps.

Straps upset the airflow on an intercooler that is already marginal.  The
more straps, the less airflow.

You would be much better served by a bypass valve that recirculates the
compressed air -- this prevents the IC from exploding and helps save you
turbo.  The straps just keep the IC from exploding.
