interesting tire pressure drop

Okay, I know everybody already knows this, but a reminder can't
hurt. Captain Safety here decided to take Sunday afternoon to check tire
pressure on the fleet. Was I surprised! An F-150 recently driven from
south Georgia to our north Georgia compound indicated about 22 psi average.
Ouch on the gas mileage factor. 35 psi should yield a significant improvement.
My Avant (its really a Passat 1.8T manual) had a nice 15 psi in the right
rear, and the tire still looked fine! Doh! The rest of them had dropped
to the low twenties. Definitely will see a mileage improvement here, not
to mention handling.
The rest of fleet was pretty close to where it should be, with the
exception of one completely flat tire on an old 72 280SE 4.5. But that's
another story.
Moral: check tire pressure regularly.
