Hello folks,
Would anyone care to comment on the use of cheap struts in an
'88 5kcstq? By cheap, I mean Pep Boys/Checker style stuff. I
believe the manufacturers are Gabriel, Monroe, and KYB.
I would like to put something new on the car, but don't really want
to spend on the Boge's or Bilsteins. Usually I like to stick with the
best that I can afford, but I don't know that it's necessary in this
instance.
Are there any quality problems with the above brands? I imagine
some or all of them may be rebuilt units, as most have a lifetime
warranty. Of course, the warranty doesn't include labor or an
alignment.
These struts are cheap tho'. The KYB's are $47.99ea for the front,
and $38.99ea for the back. Cheap at $173.96+tax for the set.
I guess I'd prefer to drive the 5kcstq, instead of my Saturn, out to
Cali for the holidays. It needs struts and an alignment, so if it's not
the wrong decision, I may do it just for the 800+ mile round trip.
Thanks for any feedback.
Ken
