Why is my Audi 5000 Passengers front door handle so hard to
open?

I spent about an hour or two removing the door handles once and found
they could be -completely- disassembled.
I cleaned and smoothed all surfaces with a moto-too wire brush,
washed it clean, repainted lightly, coated everything that moved with
lithium grease, reassembled, and they worked much better. Cleaning
and lubing the door latching mechanism itself resulted in a further
improvement.
The following weekend, I did the rear doors, and there was a
noticeable improvement. It's probably been a couple years since
then, no problems so far.
