The plastic on the posts lasts a few years when the car is new because the
doors haven't sagged on their hinges. Putting replacement posts with new
plastic might last longer if you also realign the latch mechanism on the
door (there's a small amount of adjustment if you loosen the screws, but
new hinges and pins probably would be the best way to assure longevity.
