car, let me know. There was a time when I would mess with one of these when
I needed the money for college, and didn't have a full time career position.
Now this and some other recent ventures I've gotten into, just aren't worth
 it.

My old mechanic picked up many of these cars - all autos, and all in
reasonable shape. Most were around or under 1000$. I would say that the max
amount that he could get, all things being perfect, would be well under 2500$
- probably 2K. The problem is that the 4KQ can be had for the same amount,
and many who are going for them don't understand the reliability differences
between the FWD and the quattro models, never mind the 4 vs. 5 cyl. The
4000FWD is a great car, different than the GT, but a great commuter.
However, the resale value is no more than Jettas of the time, which are just
as reliable and actually have much better name recognition than the 4000.
Good luck to your friend, hope he sells it, but don't expect the bank.

Later!
Carter
