Yup, not only does Procon-ten pull the steering wheel in, it also tightens
the front seatbelts. It is purely mechanical, and uses cables tied to the
engine/transaxle assembly to do its work, so that when the engine is pushed
in from a severe frontal collision, the cables pull on the steering column
and the seat belts. The nice thing about this system is in its simplicity
and low cost, but is only effective for frontal collisions.

Procon-ten was equipped on 80/90 type 89 models and post-1988 type 44
models until the advent of airbags in the early 90s.

Nowadays, Audi uses lot's-o-airbags everywhere, and pyrotechnique seat belt
tensioners. On my S4, there are 6 airbags (2 front, 2 side in front seats,
and 2 side curtain head airbags that comes down from the headliner and covers
the whole front and back side windows). On A6 and A8 models, rear side
airbags are also available. There are sensors so that only the appropriate
air bag(s) would deploy depending on the collision cirmcumstance.
