Service Indicator fix 00-A6

So I did the following:

Ignition off, in Park; while holding in trip reset button, 
ignition on.

I believe that the center display should change to show:

   SERVICE!

But nada.

So I press the brake and shift to R, and the center display shows:

   SERVICE!

Ha...says I, so now I release the trip button and press the clock 
reset button on the other side.

   SERVICE goes out.

Shift back to Park and turn off ignition. Then I turn on the 
ignition, start the engine, and the center display shows:

   SERVICE! for the requisite 5 secs and goes out.

Any ideas?
