Knock sensors MC-2

What happens if you run a MC-2 engine with the knock sensors
disconnected? Max retard all the time? What if the connection from the
WGFV to the intake air boot is disconnected and left open? 

The '90 200TQ I looked at today had these "failures". If I floored it
at 3000 rpm, I could not get full boost. Highest I saw was 1.0, but
the PO claimed that it had been at 1.2 once.

In addition, the coolant & oil temperature gauges didn't work, and the
speedometer was intermittent. Bad soldering, I guess?

Other than that, the car was in generally average to above average
shape. One damaged door panel, but no other wear on the interior.
