cold bouncing car

When the temp gets down in the teens, my car bounces, it feels like the 
shocks are toast and the springs are carring the load.  The car is a 1988 
80q with 170k miles.  I imagine the shocks are original.  Is that what 
happens when shocks die¿  TIA
