just a thought...usefulness of CGT spoiler

the 81-83 spoiler serves one two part purpose: it acts as a dam for
snow, rain, etc on top of the trunk lid and its mounting bolts which
penetrate the lid serve as a convenient path for water to enter the
trunk.

the vastly improved 84-87 version, being bolted down at the ends, serves
to "keep the trunk dry" and since it is raised off the trunk itself acts
as an excellent grab bar when you are trying to walk around the cars
rear quickly (say, to get fuel) on ice.
