sucking noise from center of engine on CGT

My wife's '86 4Kq (similar engine?) developed a split in the multi-outlet 
hose that goes between the valve cover, the ISV and, I think, the crankcase 
ventilator tube.  Anyway, the split was on the bottom, where it's difficult 
to feel and impossible to see.  The connections from the hose all were 
tight but the split was making a big sucking noise that eventually went to 
quite a whistle.
