curious about Audi power steering.....

Hey all,

Was driving to work this morning and idly thinking about the power steering
and comparing it to the last car I drove, a 1986 Mercury Cougar.  The
Cougar's power steering seemed to be much more responsive and required much
less effort to turn the wheel.  I could go from lock to lock with a pinky.
The 5k tq I have is much stiffer.  Is this something that allows for more
feel or better control? Or is it just how it was designed?  

Anyways... i was just curious :)
