1987.5 CGT distributor cap and rotor

Sounds like you have the wrong distributor on the engine.  Your description
of the cap and rotor you orederd is correct.
 
 [ Okay, I've done the research and the part #'s Bosch specifies for the
1987.5 Coupe GT with the NG motor are 

  Distributor cap: 03239 
  Distributor rotor: 04139 

  But these don't fit my car. 

  The cap I got in the mail (03239 from wrenchhead.com) is two-tiered, with
a couple of the spark wire holes raised up higher than the rest. 

  The rotor I got in the mail (04139 from wrenchhead.com) is thicker and
shaped differently. 

Did a previous owner put an older distributor on the car?  Please advise.
