Autotech Quaife Differentials

    I queried Quaife on the availability of a limited slip differential for
the 012 FWD tranny.  I was informed that they no longer make these as of '99
because of on going litigation.  Since I'm nosey I had to ask what was going
on.  The fellow informed me that there are companies using the Quaife name
and selling cheap knock-off diffs.  The biggest distributor that I know of
is Autotech in CA.  I mentioned that and sure enough that is the biggest
perpetrator in this case.  Supposedly Autotech is not selling real Quaife
diffs and when they fail Quaife will not honor any warranty.  Really odd,
but last year I talked to a fellow out west that has a fried up Golf with an
Autotech purchased Quaife diff and a 6 speed conversion.  He said he was
pleased, but who knows how long they'll last?
