Because they didn't recognize it as an Audi (thought it was a Mercedes-Benz)
or just couldn't find it in the list of cars, and just refused to give a
quick answer? What if you tell them it's a 100?

And furthermore, if the car has spent some time in the UK, it surely must've
been insured at an earlier point in it's life?
