A headgasket begining to fail will put exhaust in the coolant system. As
others have mentioned I doubt this is the cause of your problems as it will
usually cause it to overheat and boil over, but it can happen. But most
improtantly you can test this fairly cheaply. Auto parts suppliers sell a
tool to test this, you put a dyed chemical in the tester, as the engine
heats up it will push air out of the coolant system and if there is any CO
present, the dye will turn from blue to yellow.
