cutting up xenons?

Wow!  That is some cool stuff!  With this, many cars will be able to have
Xenon's now...  Problem is, The crappy DOT headlight housings, but they are
getting better.  My '01 Tacoma has an EXCELLENT light cutoff, very similar
to my A4's  Euro spec S4 HID's projector!

I'd say the free-form reflector design is a great step forward in lighting.

Sorry for the confusion - I mis-typed the original post. The D1S has the
built in igniter and the D2S is the plain bulb. As it happens, I just picked
up a D1S bulb with the built in igniter today. The bulb is mounted to a box
about 1-1/2" per side - this is the source of the high voltage required to
ignite the spark. The ballast provides 85 volts to the igniter. The
advantage of this set-up is that there are no high voltage wires or
connectors involved - standard auto wiring and connectors are adequate to
carry the 85 volts from the ballast to the igniter. With the D2S, the
igniter is built into the ballast.
