Hi there!
Dates with Audi? Hm, I think I will broaden the term "date" to general
"meetings" as otherwise my text would get reaaaally short. (Hey, I am
24!)
I took a female friend (NOT girl-friend, God beware!) to her house from
university. Sadly I had knocked off the rear view mirror the day before,
bad impression to start with! When I was doing 200km/h (125mph) with my
old 83/84 Audi 100 Type44 2.23e on the very same Autobahn Bernd
Rosemeyer lost his life on when doing over 430km/h with his AutoUnion
Streamliner, she looked relatively calm. (I was 20 then.)
But later she told some other guy in my presence that I drive so fast in
"that _Kiste_" (The German word "Kiste" is related to old cars and meant
very negatively.) Hm, I was pi**ed, -first- she put down my car and was
-second- too much of a coward to say something like "Would you mind
driving slower?"!
One or two years later I got my '90 Audi 100 Sport. When she once again
said something like "old kiste" against my as-good-as-new Sport, I told
her "Watch your words, _I_ chose to drive _that_ car and I _like_ it, if
you have a problem with my _car_, you therefore have a problem with
_me_!" The normal party-talk that was going on stopped immediately and
all people looked at me and her. Then she collected herself (she was
pretty puzzled!) and nodded something like "sorry".
That was pretty much the end of any relationship with that girl.
Man that girl was terrible in lots of other aspects, glad this is over
now.
Other typical reactions were not told but could be easily read on the
faces "A 19.5 year old driving such a large car? Crazy!"
You can earn some kind of respect when you can park your car in a small
space! ;)
If you cannot do, you might hear "If we had taken my Polo, we would have
found a parking space very easily!" Evening ruined!
The best experience I had some weeks ago and I already posted it. I had
a "blind date" (we met in the net) with a girl who sells Audis at a
dealer here and drives a V8 4.2! No love, but a really great Saturday
with loads of talking about everyting (also NAC) including Audi's past,
present and possibles future, reagarding the points of drivers,
enthusiasts and vendors alike. She liked my car but is still not sure if
she likes the colour ;)
When her V8 seriously broke down (we met in a town where she worked that
day and drove around in her V8 the whole day), I drove her home, so
breaking down can actually be not so bad at all.
BTW: Also guys tend to have mixed feelings about old and large
(remember, this is not the States!) cars, but I care even less then.
My best buddy always likes going in my car, as a passenger of course.
When we, a group of three (including one lovely girl who still drives
Ford (brrr) but will be turned around by her VW (ok) driving boy-friend
(Grrr) ) of my student-buddys and me, were leaving for a technical fair
some 350km away, we agreed on using my 100 Sport and not the other guy's
small and asthmatic Audi A4 1.6, so I really had luck that day and could
let my car fly through the hills on the Autobahn. The three slept while
I was taking corners with 200km/h. So they must have trusted me ;) Even
the very "aware" guy with the A4 was able to take a nap!
I also realized that people thought the car was older(!) or newer than
it is. I then always say, "Yes, it was built from 82 to 90!" (Europe)
Result is most often "Impressing!" But I think they are happy with their
new Polos, Corsas and Golfs.
My last girlfriend (well, that is a pitty that it had to end) liked my
car as she also drove her father's Audi 100 C4 2.3e!!! Sometimes with a
big trailer with a horse!!!
Impressing, huh?
So, more positive or negative results?
I don't care too much, I tend to forget the bad ones and be happy about
the good ones.
I think more people than I would imagine don't car anything about cars.
The next big group is the one that only judges by age and the third
group only judges by brand.
Man, what a long post, I think I should install a ramble-meter!
