Fellow listers:
The following is a worthy response from a female co-worker (non-lister -- I
solicited her views) re: the recent "Audis and dates" and/or "women and
cars" thread:
"As you might guess I'm one of the minority wives-crew on SCCA (Sports Car
Club of America) race weekends. But I'd say spouses support (both
financially and mechanically) a good 30% of the cars there. I actually
enjoy meeting and sharing stories with the fine folks who enjoy road racing
weekends. (Many of whom do read.) I must admit most of my peers (wives)
prefer auto-cross to road racing to get the thrills of competitive driving.
It might be the safer me-against-the-clock versus
me-against-25-other-high-testosterone-individuals-on-a-2 -mile -track, even
if they are all going the same way! By the way my little Audi 80 was my
favorite car to date, (out of the 30 street cars we've owned in the last 12
years) even over the sporty MR-2. I prefer more torque and less whining
hamsters.
For sure a little driving enthusiasm/competitiveness does make my marriage
more fun. As far as choosing a partner for life, my first husband never
fixed the seat adjustment on the Spitfire to fit me!"
