Our 87 5kTQ has been stalling and exhibiting other strange behavior. It
started about a month ago when it did not want to idle in the morning until
it was warmed up, which later progressed to it didn't want to idle when warm
and the alternator was putting out, ie; with the headlights and rear window
defogger working. I put in a bottle of Techron, doesn't that fix everything?
No, apparently not. I had driven a few miles to drop off my wife to ride her
horse and was to pick her up in 45 minutes. After sitting for the 45 minutes
I drove to get her and the car stalled at a stop light. It would fire and
then die when I started to pull away. It did this for a couple of minutes and
then fired up. I drove home switched cars and went and got my wife. She
didn't drive the car for a few days and I could find nothing wrong and could
not reproduce any of the problems. So a day or two later I was going to take
the car to an Alfa Romeo meeting about an hour away, I guess I really pissed
off the Audi gods since I got two miles from home and the car stalled on the
ramp to the tollway. It would catch but would not keep running a couple of
times and then no catch at all, no codes then or previous or now. I had to
tow it home. I was busy all week so today I took it out and almost everything
was fine except for when I punched it the boost would climb to 1.2-1.3 bar
and then around 4500 rpm would start to decrease to 0.9-0.8 bar. This makes
me suspect the Michelin Man hose or some other intake air leak, but I
replaced the Michelin Man hose around a year ago. I also replaced the right
front mount, exhaust manifold and intake manifold and the Michelin Man hose
looked fine. Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance,
