air blower question

You can examine it and make a determination by looking at the brushes and
rotor.

Also, if your heater core was never replaced and the blower assembly seals
on the firewall are original, and the hoses are all original, then chances
are high that the blower is also original and will fail soon.

As you replace the core, you are going to open up the system and can _look_
at the blower motor and even check the wear on the commutator and look at
the brushes. If it is a new motor, don't replace it.

Use a strong flashlight and look into the open space where the cooling air
flows around the blower motor. From the outside that cooling duct is
identified by a thumb-shaped black rubber boot, visible from the driver
side of the bay that holds all that heater stuff (under the plastic cover
in front of the windscreen.) Look at the motor when you get the stuff
apart. I replaced my blower motor, and I inspected the old motor. Then I
pitched it. Badly worn brushes and rotor.

Hi all.

I am replacing heater core. Car is 11 years old, I own it 1 year and
don't know previous owner. In other words, I don't know how old is
blower. Can I evaluate the state of the blower somehow or I should
replace it with no questions to avoid this PITA again very soon.

Thanks.
