You could make something simple up to control heat/cold into cabin of
car as that is controlled by a cable connected to a POS motor/gear
assembly (earlier 44's - I believe later ones had it mounted right on
the air box). A sliding lever would accomplish this. You could
fabricate some type of rotary switch to control vacuum to defrost,
center and floor dwelling vents without too much trouble (lotsa time
tho'). You could beg the list to see if some lucky sole has a *spare*
working control module that they wouldn't mind parting with, or
scrounge around the car graveyards for a good working example (both
would be my choice). The motor/gear assembly controlling the air flaps
eats itself (most common) and the solenoids controlling the vent
vacuum get sticky (less common). I once went to the trouble of seeing
if I could get the gears in the motor/gear assmbly made from scratch
(ya, I'm a crazy man). In the end I just put a stick in through the
bowden cable so I could control cabin heat in the winter (didn't have
to move it too often :) until I rustled up a working example from a
kindly lister (thanks again Marc!)
