A6 2.7TQ impressions...

I spent one week with an A6 2.t 6-speed in California, driving Sonoma and
San Francisco. The car accelerated well, not as quick as a true "performance
car" but I was able to merge onto the highways without any concern, blow
through traffic, pass on the two-lane roads near Sears Point, etc. The
shift/clutch action was odd, but this was a car that gets a LOT of use by a
wide variety of people. Add in the fact that the car is based in SF and it's
a stick and I'll chalk up the balky shift/clutch action to the fact that the
clutch gets a lot of abuse on the hills of SF.
Anyhow, I loved the car. Better -- yes, BETTER -- than the new S4, becase it
can actually hold humans in the rear seat for a long time, the trunk is
huge, the sport seats and suspension are comfortable and competent. The OEM
"sport" tire blows (a 215 Michelin Touring something or other), but I don't
have many other complaints. Make the car an Avant (or, better yet, and S6 --
which is coming in late '01/early '02) and I'd lust for it.
