The original post was in reference to the laws in the UK. Penalty for
having bullets is 5 years it seems.
Could be worse, imagine innocently driving along in certain Middle East
countries and at a road block they find a Hustler Magazine and a 5th of
Johnny Walker under the seat (which belonged to the previous driver of
course.) I wouldn't stick around for the penalty phase of the trial.
About 20 yrs. ago a customer came into a friends shop with a prewar
Mercedes. While looking for a short in the rear tail light he found a
hand grenade. FBI and about 10 other agencies swarmed the place, funny
thing was that they were all more interested in finding out the origin of
the grenade than getting the damn thing out of there. They all seemed
disappointed when it was determined the grenade had been in there for
about 25 years. If someone had rear ended that car just right they'd be
in for a surprise.
There was also a quip in Autoweek about police who sold a car at a police
auction that had $1.3 million of cocaine still in it. The car, impounded
following an arrest, went to auction and was bought by a teenager. The
drugs were found when he was installing a new stereo. He'd been driving
around for months with the cocaine in the car.
