As I understand it---a CYA phrase formerly used as a verbal escape route
in staff meetings:>)---on the 91 90q20v, the fuel and temperature gauges
share a common fuse and stabilized voltage source, the latter located on
an circuit board in the dashboard. The same circuitry may be used on the
90 V8.  So if your temp gauge is OK, you can rule out the supply and
fuse, but still might have a hairline crack in the circuit land related
to the fuel gauge, a defective gauge, or the associated circuitry going
to the sender in the tank (or, of course, the sender itself.)  The slow
response of the fuel gauge reacting to an "iffy" connection may be
explained by the overdamped design of the fuel gauge itself.
