"Better" is somewhat subjective

In better, lets see, where to start.  You must decide what you want.  If you
just want to piddle around town, go for the VR-6.  If you want any
performance, go for the 1.8T.  The t is a much more durable motor, that will
outlast, and outperform the VR-6.  The 6 has 174hp this year, and the t has
150, which is choked by Audi and VW on the exhaust side, to cut back on hp, so
that more people might be drawn to the larger and much more costly motors.
The 1.8t offers much less weight, therefore, less power is needed, and it
handles a ton better with less sprung weight over the front axles.  The 1.8 is
also probably the most tunable motor of all time, and definitely since the
350.  It's not uncommon to see over 400hp coming out of those motors, and for
just about $500, you can have 200 reliable hp from the 1.8t, and still keep
your factory warrantee.
  That's what I term as better IMO.
